A decade of enslavement with no pay | عقدٌ من الاستعباد بدون راتب: بان ماي تُريد العودة إلى منزلها https://video.megaphone.news/videos/watch/038210f0-0282-4a14-9bde-83e514444539 «أريد العودة إلى قريَتي… مشتاقةٌ جدّاً لرؤية عائلتي»، هذا كان مطلب العاملة النيبالية بان ماي دونغ التي تستحقّ أجور عقد من العمل المنزلي غير المدفوع لدى عائلة الطبيب النفسي نوّاف عبدالله. هاجرت دونغ إلى لبنان منذ 13 عاماً، وعملت لدى آل عبدالله قرابة 11 عاماً. في تمّوز 2021، تواصلت عائلتها مع منظّمة «ذيس إز ليبانون» للعمل على إعادتها إلى النيبال تلبيةً لطلبها. أكّدت العائلة أنّ دونغ لم تُرسل إلى بلدها سوى 3,500$ تقريباً في سنوات عملها الأولى، بينما اعتمد عبدالله بدعة أنّ «بان ماي فرد من العائلة» لتبرير عدم دفع مستحقّاتها. كما اتّهم عبدالله عائلة دونغ بتبذير الأموال، ما جعله يحتجز راتبها معه، مؤكّداً أنّها «تتشارك معهم الوضع الاقتصادي الصعب». بالرغم من أنّ الطرفَين أكّدا أنّ العلاقة حسنة بينهما، إلّا أنّ آل عبدالله لا يزالون يتجاهلون طلب دونغ بالعودة وتقاضي مستحقّاتها، ما جعل منظّمة «ذيس إز ليبانون» تطلق حملةً «لإنهاء عقد استعباد دونغ». “I want to go back to my village… I miss my family very much.” This was Nepalese domestic worker Ban Mai Dong’s only demand, after a decade of unpaid house work for the family of psychologist Nawaf Abdallah. Dong immigrated to Lebanon 13 years ago and worked for the Abdallahs for nearly 11 years. In July 2021, her family contacted This Is Lebanon to work on bringing her back to Nepal, as she had requested. Dong’s family confirmed that she had only sent about $3,500 back home in the first years of work. Abdallah responded by saying Ban Mai “is like a member of our family” and accused her family of squandering the money, to justify not paying her.
