Families of the port explosion victims blocked the entrances to the Beirut Justice Palace on Monday, to protest the suspension of judicial investigator Judge Tarek Bitar’s work for over three weeks. The families demanded appointing a new judge to the Court of Cassation’s Plenary Assembly, so that it can decide on the removal requests submitted against Judge Bitar. The assembly lost quorum with the retirement of Judge Roukoz Rizk. Suspects Ali Hassan Khalil and Ghazi Zeaiter had submitted a request to dismiss Bitar before the First Chamber of the Court of Cassation, headed by Judge Naji Eid, on December 23, 2021.
