The share of the Fateh Alliance, a group of pro-Iranian militias that falls under the umbrella of the Popular Mobilization Forces, decreased from 47 to 14 seats. On the other hand, Al-Sadr's bloc increased its share of seats from 54 seats in the last elections to 73, marking a clear lead ahead of the second bloc, the Takkaddam Alliance which won 38 seats. The results also showed the decline of some blocs that represent former traditional leaders, such as the Hikma Movement led by Ammar al-Hakim, which won only two seats compared to 19 seats in the last election, and the Nasr Coalition linked to Haider al-Abadi, which also won two seats in comparison with its 42 seats in the previous election. In his first statement that delineates the features of the coming phase, al-Sadr pledged that weapons will not be allowed outside of the state even among those who claim to be the resistance, in a veiled reference to militias backed by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. He stressed that "Iraq is for Iraqis only," declaring that the time has come for the Iraqi people to live "in peace, free of occupation, terrorism, or militias that kidnap, intimidate and undercut the authority of the state."
