Amal Movement supporters prevented the celebration of the October 17 anniversary in Tyre’s Al-Alam Square, on Saturday night. They attacked protesters in the square, and chose to hold a funeral for the victims that fell during the Tayouneh clashes last Thursday, in order to disrupt the celebrations for the uprising’s anniversary, prompting protesters to cancel their sit-in. Amal supporters also attacked activists Hassan Hijazi and Maan Halawi with batons and knives on Saturday night, after they criticized advocating for the accused former minister Ali Hassan Khalil and fueling crowds to defend him. Both activists filed a claim at a Tyre police station over the attacks. Journalist Mahdi Krayem also stated he and Maan Halawi’s brother were threatened after they tried to get recordings documenting the attack on Halawi.
