Draft law to abolish the death penalty The Lebanese Association for Civil Rights (LACR) will launch, on Saturday, a campaign to pass a draft law abolishing the death penalty in Lebanon. The proposal consists of a single article: the abolition of capital punishment. Although there has been a moratorium on executions for 22 years, since January 17, 2004, the death penalty remains in Lebanese law. The Lebanese government discussed the proposal on November 20 and approved it, and parliamentary sessions to review it began earlier this year.
