This follows last year’s massive pro-Palestine sit-ins at the university, which led to President Nemat (Minouche) Shafik’s resignation and the detention of several students, including Mahmoud Khalil, and their deportation. The university bowed to pressure from US President Donald Trump and agreed to pay $221 million to settle lawsuits alleging it failed to prevent antisemitism on campus, thus securing the resumption of billions in federal funding. +972 magazine also reported that the university pledged to expand its academic initiatives with Tel Aviv University.
