Prime Minister Najib Mikati blamed residents for the unavailability of medicine in the market, arguing that medicines are missing because people are hoarding them in their homes. Mikati used the same rationale as the BDL governor who said that people contributed to the high exchange rate after they kept their dollars at home. In his statement on Friday from the headquarters of the General Labor Union, Mikati made no mention of importers and monopolists who caused the crisis, although it has been proven that they stockpiled thousands of subsidized medicines to sell them after subsidies were lifted and earn higher profits at the expense of people's health.
