Participants called on the Ministry of Culture and the National Film Organization to intervene and protect the cinema, which dates back to the 1960s. Al-Kendi Cinema is an integral part of the city’s history, having provided generations with a space to form film clubs and watch movies at a nominal fee. Last Thursday, the Ministry of Religious Endowments demanded that al-Kendi Cinema be evacuated and the building handed over within seven days, threatening to deploy judicial police to enforce the eviction.
