The town of Choueifat remembered martyr Alaa Abou Fakher, who was murdered on this day two years ago, in the square renamed after him on Friday. Abou Fakher’s wife Lara held a press conference where she denounced the Military Court, saying that the family “will not accept a court that acquits the oppressor.” Colonel Nidal Daou was arrested in the case then released four months after the crime. Hundreds gathered for the commemoration of Abou Fakher, a member of the Progressive Socialist Party who was killed during the third week of the October 17 uprising. Head of the party Walid Joumblatt had renewed his attack on the uprising in his latest speech during the party’s 44th conference.
