Thugs from Egypt’s New York consulate assault protesters In a new diplomatic scandal, and under instructions from Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, staff at Egypt’s consulate in New York assaulted two young men protesting the closure of the Rafah crossing. Consulate employees dragged the two inside the building and beat them. What made the scandal worse was that US police had to enter the consulate itself to pull the two from the assailants. This assault comes amid a wave of spontaneous protests outside Egyptian embassies around the world denouncing its complicity in the Gaza genocide. It also follows the leak of a recording in which Abdelatty incited against protesters and urged embassy staff to confront them, effectively exporting the regime’s thuggery abroad.
