Syrian army takes control of SDF areas west of the Euphrates On Saturday, the Syrian army began deploying in areas vacated by the Syrian Democratic Forces west of the Euphrates, stretching from the town of Deir Hafer in rural #Aleppo to Maadan, southeast of Raqqa. SDF commander Mazloum Abdi announced on Friday a redeployment east of the Euphrates River, namely to areas under SDF control in al-Hasakah, Raqqa, Deir Ezzor and northern Aleppo. According to Abdi, the move came at the request of “friendly states and mediators,” and in commitment to completing integration with the state and implementing the March 10 agreement. On the Syrian government side, President #AhmedalSharaa issued a decree stipulating the protection of Kurdish rights, following decades of marginalization under the Assad regime. The decree grants Syrian citizenship to Kurds living in #Syria, declares Nowruz a national public holiday, and allows the teaching of the Kurdish language in areas where Kurdish communities reside.
