On Monday morning, students at UNRWA schools in Palestinian camps protested, waving Palestinian flags and maps, in solidarity with Rafidia Preparatory Girls’ School students in Saida, who were forced last Saturday to remove jackets bearing the map of Palestine and keffiyehs. The school administration deemed these symbols unacceptable and asked parents to provide jackets without political imagery, claiming that the map of Palestine recognized by UNRWA is limited to the West Bank and Gaza. The Rafidia decision coincided with the removal of a map of Palestine from a wall at Qubayya School in the Ain al-Hilweh camp, suggesting a broader policy by the agency.
