As part of their electoral campaign, the Lebanese Forces are claiming they are the “real revolution” that is able to build a state, and are presenting themselves as the only party capable of confronting Hezbollah. Despite LF ministers being part of the Cabinet in most successive governments since 2005, and the party’s role in the presidential settlement, the LF insists on running under the slogan of change. تخوض القوات اللبنانيّة معركة انتخابية مصيرية، سواء في شعاراتها أو في مضمونها. فهي تقدّم الاستحقاق المقبل كمعركة استعادة السيادة من سطوة حزب الله، كما تتهيّأ لترَؤّس كتلة معارضة تحوّلها إلى لاعب أساسي، مع انهيار خصمها المسيحي. وبالرغم من مصيرية هذه المعركة، فإنّ حسابات القوات اللبنانيّة أضيق من ذلك. فما تطمح له هو القضاء على الخصوم المعارضين، سواء كانوا ضمن الطائفة أو خارجها، لكي تتحوّل القوات اللبنانيّة إلى الشريك الوحيد في أي تسوية مقبلة. فما من أفق لمعارضةٍ كهذه إلّا التسوية، أو الحرب. «نحن فينا» شعار يُرفع في وجه المُعارضين الذين «ما فيهم»، «نحن فينا» نواجه، ولكن أيضاً «نحن فينا» نساوم. The Lebanese Forces’ slogans reveal the party’s existential fight in the electoral battle. The party is presenting the parliamentary elections as a fateful battle to regain sovereignty and get rid of Hezbollah’s control. It is preparing to head a major opposition bloc, which will turn the group into an essential player, given its Christian opponent’s declining power. However, despite this fateful battle, the LF’s goal is less ambitious than it seems: the party seeks to eliminate its opponents, from within or outside the sect, so that it becomes the sole partner in any upcoming political settlement.
