The building housing the Dean of the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences at the Lebanese University's Dekwaneh campus was evacuated on Wednesday, when it became clear that it was threatening to collapse. Specialized engineers inspected the building and requested that it be closed as a precaution. The administration of the faculty was moved to another location. In an interview with Al-Jadeed TV, the college dean said that the staff had noticed new cracks in the building a few days ago, and worsening cracks in the ceilings after the recent rains. The dilapidated building is another vivid embodiment of the situation of the Lebanese University. Not only has the government reduced the university's budget by LBP 55 billion, but in its latest general budget it has also deliberately stricken pension benefits from public office, which includes the professors of the Lebanese University.
