On the 47th commemoration of the start of the Lebanese civil war, the Committee of the Families of the Kidnapped and Disappeared organized on Wednesday an event to turn people's attention to the fate of nearly 17,000 persons who went missing during the war. The event entitled "For sure something of them remains" was held at Beirut Beirut in Sodeco and was attended by several mothers of missing persons. The event included a speech by the National Commission for the Missing and Forcibly Disappeared that was formed in 2018, thanks to the efforts of the Committee of the Families of the Kidnapped and Disappeared. But the national commission's work has been hampered by the resignation of a number of its members in June 2021 and the subsequent failure to appoint replacements.
