On Thursday, the French administrative court rejected the request to deport Lebanese political prisoner Georges Abdallah, submitted by his lawyer Jean-Louis Chalenset in 2020, which the French interior minister has refused to sign. The court’s rapporteur said that no law “forces the Ministry of Interior to deport a foreigner," as long as he does not constitute an imminent threat to public security. But Chalenset criticized this position, noting that the refusal to sign the deportation order is "a scandal for the state." A protest in support of Abdallah was organized in front of the administrative court in Paris in conjunction with today's session. Several other actions were held in other countries. A vigil was organized in front of the French embassy in Lebanon, on Wednesday evening. Abdallah is considered one of the oldest prisoners in France. He has been incarcerated for more than 37 years, although he has been eligible for parole since 1999. Abdallah was arrested in France in 1984. The French authorities accused him of complicity in the assassination of American and Israeli diplomats, after he founded the Lebanese Armed Revolutionary Factions in support of the Palestinian cause.
