Protesters burned a poster of Qassem Soleimani, the former commander of the Quds Force in the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, in his home province of Kerman, which has joined the wave of protests after Mahsa (Jina) Amini was tortured to death. The protest movement spread from Kurdish regions to the neighboring provinces of Shiraz, Bandar Abbas, Qom, and Isfahan, and to the capital, where people gathered most notably in Tehran universities. The Iranian authorities have confirmed the death of five people during the recent protests, two of whom were security officers. Hengaw, a Kurdish human rights organization, said at least ten people died as a result of the regime's suppression of demonstrations in various Iranian provinces. The regime announced the death of Mahsa (Jina) Amini on September 16, after the "morality police" arrested her on September 13 for not wearing "a proper hijab."
