Trials Begin in Syrian Coast Massacres The first public hearing in the trial of those involved in the events and massacres in the Syrian coast began in Aleppo on Tuesday. The proceedings were broadcast on Syrian state television, a first since the fall of the regime. The 14 defendants were carefully selected: seven belonging to the former #AssadRegime and accused of committing crimes against Syrian security forces, and seven others belonging to opposition factions and accused of committing crimes against civilians. It was not clearly specified whether these seven were affiliated with official Syrian security or with allied factions. The verdict in today's session was postponed until December, with further public hearings scheduled to continue the case involving 563 suspects.
