The Israeli army kept the entrances closed and banned the use of cars, forcing residents to carry their supplies and belongings on foot or by using carts and animals. Naturally, they were also compelled to stock up beyond their immediate needs, fearing the siege might extend beyond the period announced. On Monday, the Israeli army launched a military campaign in the southern part of al-Khalil in the southern West Bank, separating it from the northern part of the city, amid fears of a new wave of displacement similar to what has affected refugee camps in the northern West Bank.
