https://video.megaphone.news/videos/watch/cb70fa8b-074c-46e4-8bf8-b767aa34e17b كانت العاملة المنزلية سارة تتأمّل أن تقبض مستحقّات عقد العمل الأوّل التي تساوي 2,400$، عندما عادت من نيجيريا لتجدّد عقد عملها. لم تكن تتوقّع أنّ داني وسيلفا عوّاد سيُعاودان الكرّة، ولن يدفعا لها مستحقّات العقد الثاني أيضاً، والتي بلغت قيمتها 12,400$. تدخّلت منظّمة «ذس إز ليبانون» في نيسان 2021، وتواصلت مع العائلة بناءً على طلب سارة (اسمها الفعلي كازيم باسيرات توب). اختبأ داني عوّاد خلف سمعته الحسنة كنائب رئيس بلديّة في القاع، وشرح للمنظّمة عن ضائقته المالية، فيما طلبت زوجته من المنظّمة أن تتعاطف معها كونها أمّاً لأربعة أولاد وتتابع الشؤون المنزلية لمنزلَين. استمرّت ذرائع العائلة التي وافقت على الدفع بسعر الصرف الرسمي، ما يحوّل راتب الـ300$ إلى 20$ فقط. وذلك قبل إحالة المنظّمة إلى محامي العائلة الذي انتقد «ذس إز ليبانون» لمناصرتها حقوق عاملة أجنبية على حساب عائلة لبنانية. تمكّنت سارة من تسجيل حديثٍ بينها وبين سيلفا عوّاد التي هدّدتها بتلفيق شكوى سرقة كي تتخلّص منها من دون أن تدفع. ثم أرسلت العائلة للمنظّمة كتاباً باللغة العربية يحمل توقيع سارة، ويؤكّد على تنازلها عن مستحقّاتها. لدى سؤال سارة عن الموضوع، أجابت: «نعم هذا توقيعي، لكنّ المدام أخبرتني أنّ هذه وثيقة تضمن دفع مستحقّاتي بعد عودتي إلى نيجيريا». لا تزال سارة في نيجيريا اليوم، بعدما أمضت 7 أعوام في منزل داني وسيلفا عواد، تُعتَبَر 5 أعوام منها بمثابة عبوديّة. خلال هذه الأعوام، توفّيَ والد سارة وهي في لبنان, ومرضت والدتها. تطالب سارة اليوم باسترجاع ما بقيَ من مستحقّاتها، البالغة قيمتها 13,000$. Sara, a domestic worker, was hoping to receive the $2,400 from her first work contract when she returned from Nigeria to renew it. She did not expect that Dany and Silva Awad would also fail to pay the dues of the second contract, which amounted to $12,400. This is Lebanon intervened in April 2021 and contacted the family, based on a request made by Sara, whose real name is Kazeem Basirat Tope. Dany Awad brought up his “good” reputation as deputy mayor of Qaa and told the organization of his financial troubles, while his wife asked them to empathize with her, –– a mother of four who manages two households. The family kept coming up with excuses, as they agreed to pay Sara at the official rate, turning her $300 salary into $20. They then referred This Is Lebanon to their lawyer, who criticized the organization for supporting the rights of a migrant worker at the expense of a Lebanese family. Sara was able to record a conversation with Silva Awad where her employer threatened to make up a false accusation of theft against her in order to avoid paying her. The family then sent a document in Arabic to the organization, signed by Sara, confirming that she has accepted to waive her dues. When asked about it, Sara said “My madam told me this is the guarantee of collecting my money and going back to Nigeria.” Sara is now in Nigeria, after seven years spent in the home of Dany and Silva Awad, with five of them spent in slavery. Sara’s father passed away and her mother became ill during this time, while she was in Lebanon. Sara is demanding to receive what is left of her $13,000 dues.
