They concluded their tribute with the Palestinian flag displayed alongside the messages: “Freedom for Marwan” and “Freedom for Palestine.” Israel has sentenced Barghouti to five life sentences plus 40 years in prison, accusing him of being responsible for operations carried out by resistance fighters against Israeli forces. Barghouti is one of the most popular figures among the Palestinian people, and the Israeli authorities have repeatedly refused to release him during prisoner exchange negotiations with resistance factions.
