The protest that Afghan women organized in front of the Iranian embassy in Kabul yesterday lasted only 15 minutes, as Taliban forces quickly dispersed the women by firing shots into the air. The protestors held banners bearing the words "women, life, freedom," the slogan of the Iranian protests, and hid their faces behind masks and sunglasses to avoid being recognized and persecuted or punished for their action. Conditions for women in Afghanistan have declined sharply since the Taliban regained control of the country following the withdrawal of U.S. forces in August 2021. Teenage girls have been barred from attending school, female employees have been forced to leave government jobs.
