On Thursday, 24-year old Fawzia Fayad passed away after struggling with cancer. She was one of the patients who spoke up about the shortage of medicine for incurable diseases. Fayad was famous for participating in the October 17 uprising and her activism on social media, where she shared the story of her illness to encourage other patients. Last year, she complained about the failure of the concerned authorities to provide treatment drugs on an episode of “Sar el Waet” –– the same episode where Health Minister Firass Abiad was busy showing off his accomplishments. Cancer patients had launched the “We want cancer treatment” campaign last summer, and demanded ending the medication monopoly and securing treatments for patients.
